The LDS Principle that Leads out of Mormonism

There is a foundational principle within LDS theology which, if completely embraced, must eventually carry you out of Mormonism.

That principle is objectivity.

In the creation story in the Book of Abraham, it says: “We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell” (Abraham 3:24).

What are these materials?

In the King Follett sermon, Joseph Smith said, “element had an existence from the time He had. The pure principles of element are principles that can never be destroyed. They may be organized and re-organized, but not destroyed.”

These ideas and similar teachings were a part of the beginning of my objective view of existence—the idea that existence exists independent of our minds and even independent of the mind of God.

Whether you deconstruct your religious worldview philosophically or through problems with truth claims, this idea is at the root.
Whether we are talking about faith and morality or, for example, seer stones being impossible. In both cases, the philosophical problem is an appeal to authority in a universe where the highest authority is existence itself.
