If you want to follow the truth no matter where it leads, it cannot be done without doubts.
Even if what you believe is true, you cannot know it until you doubt.
Why?
Because you have to know it for yourself. And in order to know it, you have to question it.
We can all see this when we look at the other guy’s religion. We grasp the idea that if he doesn’t question, he’ll never find the deeper truth. As an LDS missionary in the Bible Belt, there was nothing that I wanted more than for Christians to question their assumptions enough to read the Book of Mormon.
Doubt is the red pill.
It is the willingness to follow the truth wherever it leads—not doubt for doubt’s sake, but a love of the truth.
What is the blue pill?
The blue pill is “doubting your doubts before you doubt your faith.”
If you take the blue pill, “you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe.”
Doubts are uncomfortable, but they are not the enemy.
Even if you are religious, and regardless of what religion you claim, I hope we can agree that doubt is not the enemy—blind faith is.
Do you agree?
